Upper class Fashion
People in the upper class(Nibles/Royalty) were permitted to wear clothing made out of different types of expensive and rare materials such as fur, velvet, silk, lace. One of the most imortant items were ruffs(large, fan-like collars that were worn by both men&women)
There was division even within the upper class
-Queen Elizabeth and her relatives would wear clothing that used gold or gold trimming
Upper class women wore a chemise under all of thier clothes, then a ccorset, then a petticoat, then a farthingale, stockings, a gown, sleeves, and neck and wirst ruffs.
Upper class men dressed similarly to the women, but they wanted to look masculine, so they wore clothes that had broad shoulders, broad hips, and narrow waists (their outifts looked slightly like a suit of armor)
Middle class Fashion
People in the middle class: mainly composed of rich people
Almost every person in middle class wore hats in public, and both men and women enjoyed jewelry accessories. All men and women wore gloves whenever they went out. Also, many women sprayed perfumes before going out . Middle calss women could wear clothing made out of broadcloth, linen, and cotton. Men wore a padding insid the shirt called codpice, which plumped thier belly, so they would look rich.
A fashion item for men at the time was the codpiece. At first, a codpiece was for protection, it eventually became a symbol of welth.
Lower class Fashion
People in the lower class: poor people such as peasants, servants, marketpeople, and beggars
They wore aprons, fitted sleeves, and partlets or neckclothes. Most of the people in the lower class wore clothes that were made of muslin and wool(cheap fabrics). Also, lower class people had a limitation of color becasue they couldn't afford expensive dyes, they used natural plants to get the color. Blue was the most common color for the lower class because it was cheap.
